At St. Vincent's Hospital we recognise that our staff are our most valuable resource and as such their education, development and welfare are vital to achieving our mission. Fundamental to this belief is an endorsement of the concept of persons, beginning with an understanding of the diversity of our unique talents and skills. Recognising diversity within St Vincent's Hospital helps us to appreciate and connect the great variety of gifts people bring to the workplace. We believe each person's work should be and can be productive and rewarding, meaningful and maturing, enriching and fulfilling. By conceiving a vision and pursuing it together, we can reach our goals personally, professionally and organisationally. We are a people-oriented organisation. We intend, through honest examination of our environment and our work, to meet the needs of our staff and those we serve. Shared mission, shared values, shared ideas, shared respect, shared goals, a sense of integrity, a sense of quality, and a sense of caring are the basis of our organisational value system.
Our Mission
Staff Development seeks as its mission to make St Vincent's Hospital a place of realised potential for everyone. The programs offered are designed to create a common bond of interdependence, mutual interest, interlocking contributions and good communication. The learning activities give each person an opportunity to serve, to grow and to meet challenge. Staff Development allows us to learn and grow together. For in the steady process of life-long emotional and intellectual growth, we discover truth, compassion and the inherent value of human relationships.Staff Development Defined
Staff Development is a process which enables all staff at St Vincent's Hospital to reach their greatest personal and professional potential. Conceptually, it is not a person, place or thing in the traditional sense: rather staff development is the process of sharing vision, goals and commitment, then incorporating the ideas this process generates into our daily lives. The process of staff development involves the full spectrum of human communication and interaction. It occurs wherever and whenever people share ideas, goals, vision, a sense of purpose and a commitment to our mission. Only as we learn to listen carefully with respect for feelings, insights and perspectives of others, only as we learn the importance of sharing ownership with each and every person on the team, do we begin to realise the strength and momentum that comes from the shared ownership of ideas. This is staff development
